Ashton Gate Terrace

A highly constrained end of terrace opportunity

This end of terrace site was enclsoe on all sides with no opportunity for new windows on any of the boundaries. Furthermore, the close proximity of neighbouring 1st floor windows meant and proposed dwelling would need to be restrained to a single storey. This therefore called for a creative solution to ensure any new dwelling slotted into the tight slot did not harm the neighbouring amenity or the streetscape, whilst also providing adequate internal amenity space for future occupants. How can you bring in sufficient daylight to all rooms where you can not have outward facing windows? The solution here was to insert an external courtyard and wrap the layout around it, this combined with the high vaulted ceilings esures aa sense of space and openness to all rooms. All of this in a dwelling that sensitively leans against its neighbour, providing no more visual harm than a typical garage.
