This challenging site called for the reuse of the upper floors above a prime retail unit to be achieved without impacting the viability of the longstanding business below. Park steet is a main central high street in Bristol and classed as primary shopping frontage. The design successfully gained permission for 3 flats through the introduction of a discreet staircase on the ground floor. Initially the council pushed for a dedicated bin and cycle store on the ground floor as per their policy, however after extensive negoationas IWA successfully overturned the policy to propose the store upstairs and thus prevent valubable retail floor being taken up.
